PROJECTS IN PROGRESS
Propel NY Energy – Long Island, Queens, Bronx & Westchester County
New York Transco is currently collaborating with the New York Power Authority (NYPA) on the Propel New York Energy project – an innovative electric transmission solution that will bolster energy delivery, grid reliability and resiliency through system improvements on Long Island, in New York City and in Westchester County.
Two 2025 reports (NYISO Short-Term Assessment of Reliability: Q3 2025 and NYISO 2025 Power Trends Report) from the New York Independent System Operator, the state’s power grid manager, warned that significant electric reliability challenges will confront New York City beginning in 2026, Long Island in 2027, and the Lower Hudson Valley in 2030.
But, the reports cite the benefits of Propel New York Energy in providing “dramatic improvement” when energized in 2030.
Propel New York Energy is currently in the permitting process, with an anticipated construction start in 2026 to put the project in-service by mid-2030.
